Our Model

Our Research Center’s Model for Capacity Building

“Capacity building is predicated on the existence of integrity in the life experiences of diverse people.”

At the Capstone Institute, that is our philosophy. This is In contrast to sorting students based on supposed ability or other attributes.

The Talent Quest Model of Capacity Building operates from a set of seven principles

  • BUILD ON ASSETS

…that students and education stakeholders bring into the various schooling settings; and if such assets are not readily apparent, create assets for the relevant participants. This principle is a hallmark of what we call “Asset–Based” classroom (and other schooling) practices.

  • PROVIDE MULTIPLE PATHWAYS TO SUCCESS

…(i.e., various programs and activities) in the same educational settings, to reduce the possibility that students in particular will fall through the cracks of failure.

  • FOCUS ON "EDUCATING THE WHOLE STUDENT"

…so that all students and other program participants commit to the notion of an ongoing improvement trajectory with respect to their roles and responsibilities in the targeted intervention(s).

  • EMPHASIZE CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

…so that all students and other program participants commit to the notion of an ongoing improvement trajectory with respect to their roles and responsibilities in the targeted intervention(s).

  • IMPLEMENT CO-CONSTRUCTIVE EDUCATIONAL INTERVENTIONS

…between Capstone Institute and a given school site, school district, or other learning organizations, to ensure that practices, procedures, and programs are shaped to the unique circumstances and personnel needs of the particular educational setting.

  • DEPLOY TRANSACTIONAL PROCESSES TO PROMOTE ENGAGEMENT

…such that the practices and procedures comprising the everyday interactions between teachers and students, among students, and among any other participants or stakeholders are conceived to optimize sustained engagement in the activities at hand.

  • LET EVIDENCE INFORM AND GUIDE THE INTERVENTION(S)

…so that systematic quantitative and qualitative data undergirds the choice and implementation of all activities.
